Honouring Our Elders' Health and Wellness

Our Elders are the most honoured members of our Nation. By enriching their cultural connections and strengthening their ties with each other and our Sister Nations, we aim to improve their health and wellness, decrease isolation, and increase quality of life.

Uplifting Our Elders

KFN combines both on- and off-reserve activities to promote connection, culture and wellness. We support connection to the broader community and reconciliation efforts by arranging for our Elders to do territorial welcomes and blessings, as well as encouraging them to share their wisdom and guidance by sitting on advisory committees and boards. We also provide advocacy when needed to ensure our Elders are treated with the respect and honour they deserve.

Our Elders join events such as monthly bingo socials, luncheons, wellness days with Sister Nations, shopping trips, advanced care planning, and more.

KFN Elders are defined as members aged 55+, with Winter Wellness Programs starting at age 60.

See the KFN Elders Policy for more information [pdf].

Born in a Volkswagen bus in northern BC, Tamara has lived on the K’ómoks traditional territory for 23 years. She is a proud member of the MIKI’SIW Métis Association of the Métis Nation, with Cree/Saulteau ancestry. As the mom of a neurodivergent young man, Tamara has developed a fierce sense of inclusivity, fairness and advocacy.

She values relationship building and loves the connections she has formed with the KFN community, specifically the Elders.
