Uplifting and Empowering the K’ómoks Community

K’ómoks First Nation provides and facilitates a wide range of resources, advocacy, benefits and support to our community.

7 Generations Medical helps coordinate the supply of medical supplies and equipment for First Nations people in Canada, on and off community. They specialize in patient-specific orders, including: Wound, Ostomy, Urology, Continence Care, Bath Safety, Mobility, and Breastfeeding Aids. They work closely with you and your health care team to ensure timely access to eligible products, and facilitate education events at the community level.

If you need support with child welfare or navigating a situation with the Ministry of Child and Family Development, please contact the KFN Designated Band Representative for culturally informed advocacy and support.

Healthy families make a healthy community. To help connect parents with one another, KFN hosts a regular “Parents & Tots” group. View the Events Calendar for upcoming dates, or contact Lisa Bowie.

In addition, the KFN Designated Band Rep ensures that the rights, cultural identity, and best interests of Indigenous children and families are upheld.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the 24-hour KU-UUS Crisis Response Service at 1-800-588-8717. A list of crisis support resources can be found on the Crisis Support page. For other kinds of crises, please contact Health Reception and we will do what we can to assist you.

Connecting to culture is an important part of health and wellness, supported by KFN cultural programming such as regalia, drum-making, dance, and more. View the Events Calendar for upcoming events or contact Pamela Mitchell.

KFN members have access to a wide range of education and development resources and opportunities, as well as direction, support and encouragement. For more information, contact Erin Higginbottom, Education and Capacity Development Coordinator, or see the Education Resources page.

KFN offers events and programming for our Elders, as well as a number of benefits and support to Elders aged 55 and over. Some benefits are only available for Elders living on reserve. For more details about eligibility, see Our Elders.

KFN aims to support members’ nutritional needs through LUSH Valley Good Food Boxes and home-cooked meals, available on a periodic basis. Other Food Security and nutrition initiatives are funding dependent and will be rolled out as they become available. For more information, contact Lisa Bowie.
Community Health Representative Lisa Bowie regularly hosts workshops and events, such as hand waxing, drum fit and diabetes groups, to support KFN members in their physical well-being. View the Events Calendar for upcoming events or contact Lisa Bowie.

KFN may be able to support you through the Assisted Living Program and/or homemaking services. Please contact Social Development to discuss your options.

If you live on reserve and are facing financial hardship, KFN can help you access income assistance. Depending on the circumstances, income assistance could include a monthly cheque, a Persons with Disabilities Income Assistance benefit, a Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers Income Assistance benefit, a Hardship Income Assistance benefit, and more. For more information on income assistance for K’ómoks First Nation, see Social Development.

“Plan W” is a BC PharmaCare plan available for people enrolled with FNHA. It covers 100% of eligible prescription costs, many over-the-counter medications (e.g. Advil and Tylenol) and certain medical supplies. KFN Health recommends Comox Valley Pharmacy for their extensive knowledge on Plan W and over-the-counter medications at no cost to members.

We can help you navigate medical paperwork, reimbursement forms and FNHA benefits. Contact KFN Health Reception for help.

YANA (You Are Not Alone) has helped many KFN families. It is an external, Comox Valley-based community organization that provides financial support and accommodation for families who need to travel for medical treatment for a child or a pregnant mother.
